We Support the America the Beautiful Initiative and the 30x30 Resolution to Save Nature
Our ocean is facing unprecedented global challenges. Rising temperatures, pollution, overfishing, acidification, and more threaten our most valuable resource, and responsible action is long overdue.
The Inland Ocean Coalition and our network support President Biden’s commitment to the America the Beautiful initiative and support conservation plans to ensure this commitment is equitable and inclusive of America’s myriad communities and livelihoods. We support the preservation of 30% of the United States' lands and waters by 2030 so long as the administration seeks input from communities across the country. We support the development of a 30x30 Atlas, which highlights the impacts and progress of individuals and communities working to protect ecosystems and environments. We believe in the power of sustainable and resilient communities and ask the Administration to uplift the voices of those who often go unheard, unrecognized, or are unable to speak. Finally, we support the Initiative’s goals that aim to unite conservation goals on both land and in water.
The United States is a global leader in setting precedence for resource and habitat conservation. Utilizing the America the Beautiful initiative to its fullest extent not only ensures that the US is protecting its own natural landscapes, but also encourages countries around the world to adopt similar scalable strategies to positively impact their environments, thereby setting an example for the rest of the world.
I, the undersigned, support the recommendations listed above and support the protection of 30% of America’s lands and waters by 2030.
