Historic Nomination of Deb Haaland for Interior Secretary

Congresswoman Deb Haaland’s nomination as the first Indigenous cabinet Secretary and second-highest-ranking enrolled Native American to ever serve in the federal government is hugely significant. As Interior Secretary, Haaland will work collaboratively with local experts—including tribal councils, city halls, state leaders, farmers, ranchers, conservationists, recreationists, hunters, and anglers—to conserve 30% of our lands and waters by 2030.

A 35th generation New Mexican, Rep. Haaland has a stellar bipartisan record of fighting for science, climate action, and the protection of iconic landscapes, critical cultural sites, wildlife, our ocean, rivers, lakes, and streams. She is also a champion for the creation of good-paying clean energy and outdoor recreation jobs.

Congresswoman Deb Haaland's confirmation hearing is today. Ahead of the hearing, she faced direct attacks from the oil and gas industry and the Senators they fund.

Please send a letter to your Senators in support of her confirmation here! You can also listen to her confirmation hearing here
